2026 Election / Incumbents Seek Re-election / Mayor, Two Aldermen, and Police Chief Face Challenges

By Pauline Masson – Voters will be asked to make choices in four races in the April 2026 Municipal Election based on the first week of filing. Mayor Heather Filley, Police Chief James Klingler, Aldermen James Cleeve and Karla Stewart face challenges. Five incumbents, two former employees, and two first timers filed to have their names on the April 2026 ballot. As of early filing there will be races in four positions. ^{One of my favorite childhood memories of farm life was a friendly turkey, that I never thought of as wild, that occupied the woods beyond the barn lot fence at my grandparents farm in North Arkansas. I’m taking a guess thst it was a hen because she was so friendly. When there were kids in the barnyard she would come near the fence like she was checking us out. She was there on many days, strutting back and forth and gobbling. In my memory, she was a beautiful mixture of browns and dark grays with a pink scarf at her throat, and a huge display of tail feathers that she would fan out, seeming to want to entertain us. She always gobbled when she came close to the fence. We were not allowed outside the fence and our friendly turkey never ventured in. One of my cousins later told me that the adults had clipped her wings so he couldn’t fly away. Throughout all my turkey holiday dinners, I always recalled how fat and healthy our (I thought) tame turkey was. Until I came across Mr. Pritchett’s story, I never knew there was such a thing as a white turkey.}
