Joy Bryant, veteran St. Louis area gospel music performer brings a big voice to a music festival in Gray Summit this coming Sunday
The music celebration, set for 3:00 p.m. Aug. 15 at First Baptist Church at Gray Summit, 2705 Highway 100, is titled a Gospel Sing.
There is no charge to attend but donations will be accepted.
The event is to benefit the Historic First Baptist Church in Pacific restoration project. This is the second Gospel Sing that First Baptist Church of Gray Summit has held to benefit the historic church.
Bryant brings a vast background in church music to the event. She has been performing gospel music since childhood when she traveled to area churches with her siblings, singing as a group called the McCaleb singers.
By age 18 she was the assistant music minister at her mother church Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of St. Charles.
As a teen she formed the first black community choir in St. Charles and led a St. Louis super choir to perform in a pre-release concert of the “Rebirth” at the prestigious Harris Stowe University in St. Louis.
She founded the local gospel trio known as Ascension that sang background for many local artist. In August 2017 she recorded a debut CD entitled Higher Ground.
Joining Bryant for the Gray Summit Gospel Sing will the First Baptist of Gray Summit’s Community Choir. Attendees will be invited to join the performance as Pastor Tommy Schmitt and his wife Sarah lead a congregational sing.
Joy Bryant, who currently serves as worship leader at her mother church will be joined by master of ceremonies Pastor Lawson, First Baptist of Gray Summit Pastor Tommy Schmitt, Brother Charles Wallace, and special guest Pastor Robert Stevens, Pastor of Historic First Baptist.
