Senior Center Open As Cooling Center During Heat Advisory 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tri County Senior Center, 800 West Union, is open – now through Wednesday – as a cooling center during the heat wave.

The Tri County Senior Center, 800 West Union is open as a cooling center – now through Wednesday, June 15 – to offer relief from the current heat wave.

The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures in the high 80s and 90s this week.

In lieu of ROBO calls or mention on the City of Pacific web page, the City posted EXTREME HEAT WARNING on the City of Pacific Facebook page.

To see the warning go the City of Pacific Facebook page and select “Posts.” The following post appears:

A heat advisory is issued from today at 11:00 AM  through Wednesday, 6/15/2022 at 8:00 PM CDT. Please see this link for further information and NWS safety guidance:

The City of Pacific has activated our Cooling Center program.  If you have a need please go to the Tri-County Community Senior Center, 800 W Union St., Pacific, MO 63069.  Arrangements are in place to be open today through Wednesday from 08:00 AM until 6:00 PM.  Basic comfort features are available, but no overnight accommodations are planned.

Terry Ruyle, Senior Center, or senior center volunteer, will be at the center during the heat advisory hours.

Readers who know any citizens who do not have access to the post on their computers or smart phones should consider passing on the information that the Senior Center will be open through Wednesday.

And readers should keep in mind that the Tri County Senior Center serves, the entire Tri-County, not just the City of Pacific. Your friends and relatives in the outlying areas are also served by this center. My goal with this post is to help all citizens in the Tri County Area be aware that they can cool off in the Senior Center when the heat advisory is on.

FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO COMPUTERS, THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE POSTS THE FOLLOWING PRECUATIONS ON ITS LINK.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time

outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational

Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke isan emergency! Call 9 1 1.
